What Exactly is Amazon KDP?
Posted by Gary . on 16 December 2012 02:36 AM

KDP stands for Kindle Direct Publishing. It is a service that Amazon created for book authors to allow them to 'self publish' their books in a digital format instead of having to go through the expensive and time consuming process of submitting books to publishers, signing complicated contracts that are often very much in the publishers favor and then hoping that the publisher can effectively market your book(s).

The KDP service provides a publishing platform (Kindle), an online store and several tools such as Author Central and the Kindle Store website to enable you (and Amazon) to effectively market your books.

In 2011 electronic book sales exceeded printed book sales on the Amazon web sites. In 2012 USA publishers reported that they were earning more from electronic book sales than from hard cover books.
